Integration with Tempo Timesheets (Cloud)

ActivityTimeline supports integration with Tempo Timesheets for Jira Cloud. This integration allows ActivityTimeline to load worklogs that were submitted through Tempo.

In Jira, Tempo worklogs may appear as logged by Tempo User. To import and display these worklogs correctly in ActivityTimeline, you need to create and connect a Tempo API token.

Setting Up the Integration

To configure the integration:

  • Open Tempo Timesheets as a user who has permission to view Tempo worklog data for all required users and projects.

  • Click the Configuration icon on the Tempo dashboard toolbar.

  • Open the API Integration page.

  • Click New Token.

  • Select the maximum available expiration period and grant full access, if required for your setup.

  • Copy the generated token.

  • Open ActivityTimeline → Configuration → 3rd Party Integrations → Tempo Integration.

  • Paste the copied token.

  • Click Save.

After the token is saved, ActivityTimeline can use the Tempo Cloud REST API to retrieve Tempo worklogs.

Synchronizing Tempo Worklogs

After the integration is configured, ActivityTimeline will load new Tempo worklogs by default.

If you need to import historical Tempo worklogs, run a full worklog synchronization:

ActivityTimeline Configuration → Synchronization → Refresh Worklogs → Full Worklog Synchronization

Before starting the synchronization, make sure that all required Jira projects are enabled in ActivityTimeline under:

Configuration → Projects

By default, ActivityTimeline synchronizes up to 30,000 worklogs and up to 12 months of historical worklog data.

If you need to load more historical data, increase the relevant limits under:

Configuration → Advanced Settings

Depending on the amount of historical data, you may also need to increase the number of issues loaded from Jira.

The synchronization process may take some time, depending on the number of issues and worklogs. For larger instances, we recommend running the Full Issue Synchronization first, and then running the Full Worklog Synchronization the next day.

Additional Imports from Tempo

Once the Tempo integration is configured, you can also import additional Tempo data into ActivityTimeline, including:

  • Tempo Teams

  • Tempo Holiday Schemes

  • Tempo Worklog Attributes

Tempo Teams

Tempo Teams can be imported into ActivityTimeline in two ways:

  • From Configuration → 3rd Party Integration → Tempo Integration

  • Or directly via Configuration → Teams → Import Tempo Teams

Please note that this feature functions as an import only.

If users are removed from teams in Tempo and you wish to synchronize these changes, the administrator will need to click on the 'Import Tempo Teams' button again. To ensure that users disappear from the imported Tempo team in ActivityTimeline, they must be completely removed from the team in Tempo.

Importing Tempo Holiday Schemes

To import holiday schemes from Tempo:

  1. Go to Configuration → Teams → Holiday Schemes.

  2. Click Import Schemes.

  3. Select the Tempo import option, if prompted.

Imported schemes will appear on the Holiday Schemes page and will be marked with the [TEMPO] prefix for easier identification. You will need to manually apply those to Teams, Groups or users.

Importing Tempo Worklog Attributes

Tempo Worklog Attributes can also be imported into ActivityTimeline.

To import them:

  1. Go to Configuration → Timesheets Config → Worklog Attributes.

  2. Click Import Worklog Attribute

We recommend importing Tempo Worklog Attributes before running worklog synchronization. This ensures that imported worklogs can be matched with the correct attributes.

Attributes imported from Tempo cannot be edited or managed within ActivityTimeline. Any changes (e.g., name, visibility) must be made directly in Tempo.

Logging Time Against Tempo Accounts in ActivityTimeline

If your organization uses Tempo Accounts, you can import them into ActivityTimeline as Static List worklog attributes.

Once imported, users can select the relevant Tempo Account when logging time in ActivityTimeline.

To log time against a Tempo Account:

  1. Make sure the imported Account attribute is visible in the Log Work dialog.

  2. Select the appropriate account from the dropdown list.

  3. Save the worklog.

The selected account value will be saved with the worklog and can later be used in Timesheet reporting.

Reporting on Tempo Accounts

To review worklog data by Tempo Account:

  1. Go to the Timesheets module.

  2. Open the Custom tab.

  3. Use the Group By dropdown.

  4. Select the imported Account attribute.

  5. Add any additional fields you want to display, such as Category or other worklog attributes.

This allows teams to filter, group, and analyze logged time by account across projects.

Logging Time on Behalf of Other Users

If your team logs time on behalf of other users through ActivityTimeline and Tempo Timesheets integration is enabled, make sure the required Jira permissions are configured.

For detailed setup instructions, please refer to the related documentation page:

How to enable logging work on behalf of other users (Tempo integration)

If you need assistance or notice that some worklogs are still missing after synchronization, please contact our support team so we can investigate further.

If internal project aggregation is enabled in Tempo, please inform our support team before running any additional synchronization actions. This configuration may affect how worklogs are imported, matched, and displayed in ActivityTimeline.
