Daily Estimate Concept
ActivityTimeline offers an alternative approach to estimating Jira tasks. Instead of relying solely on the Original/Remaining Estimate fields or Story Point fields, users can also estimate tasks in an hours-per-day format. This flexibility can be particularly beneficial for companies where traditional estimation methods are challenging.
Many organizations find it difficult to accurately estimate tasks using story points or fixed estimates due to the complexity and variability of their projects. By allowing estimation in hours per day, ActivityTimeline provides a more granular and practical way to manage task estimates.
To add ‘Daily Estimate’ to the task follow the steps below:
Click on any issue in ActivityTimeline Planner Module → Estimate:
Choose Daily Estimate → Define how many hours per day the resource should spend working on it for the duration of the task → Click ‘Submit’:
Done. Workload indicator will now take into account daily estimates when calculating workload.
When a task has both Remaining Estimate (or Story points) from Jira and Daily Estimate assigned, the hours per day number will be shown on the ticket and the workload will be calculated based on that number.
The hours per day estimate is not related to the Jira issue estimate fields and thus will not be displayed on the issue page.
If you decide to use solely Daily Estimate in ActivityTimeline (Not Original/Remaining Estimate) which is not affected by time tracking, you can change the setting to 'Users do not log worked time' in ActivityTimeline General Configurations and the workload will be also shown for the past in Planning Reports.
