Skills and Proficiency Levels

ActivityTimeline allows you to assign Skills to users and define their Proficiency Level for each skill.

This helps you understand what expertise is available across your organization and whether you have enough skilled resources to complete planned work or upcoming projects.

Managing Skills

To manage skills, go to:

Configuration → Users → Skills & Tags

  • Create new skills

  • Edit existing skills

  • Assign users to skills or Jira Groups

  • Review skill-related statistics

Assigning Skills to Users

Skills can be assigned in two ways.

From the Skills & Tags Page

Go to:

Configuration → Users → Skills & Tags

Open the required skill and associate users with it. While assigning users, select the relevant proficiency level for each user.

From the Users Page

You can also assign skills directly from the Users tab.

Go to:

Configuration → Users

Find the required user and enter a new or existing skill name in the user details. After adding the skill, select the appropriate proficiency level.

Managing Proficiency Levels

Proficiency levels are managed under:

Configuration → Users → Proficiency Levels

On this page, you can create and edit proficiency levels that can later be assigned to users together with their skills.

For example, you can create levels such as Junior, Middle, Senior, or any other levels that match your organization’s internal structure.

Notes

A user can have multiple skills, and each skill can have its own proficiency level.

For example, the same user can have a Senior level in Java development and an Intermediate level in React.

This provides a more accurate view of user expertise and helps managers make better resource allocation decisions.
