Overview
A Holiday Scheme is a predefined set of holidays that can be applied to teams, Jira groups, or individual users in ActivityTimeline.
Holiday Schemes are useful when your company follows official public holidays in a specific country or when different teams follow different regional holiday calendars. Instead of creating each holiday manually for every user, you can create a scheme once and apply it to the relevant group of people.
In the Holiday Schemes menu under Configuration → Teams, you can create, import, edit, and delete holiday schemes. If your employees work in different countries, regions, or states, you can create multiple Holiday Schemes and apply them to the corresponding ActivityTimeline teams, Jira groups, or individual users.
Creating a Holiday Scheme
To create a Holiday Scheme, go to:
Configuration → Teams → Holiday Schemes
On this page, you can view all existing Holiday Schemes, including schemes created manually or imported from Tempo Timesheets.
To create a new Holiday Scheme from scratch:
-
Click Create New Scheme.
-
Select one or more teams, Jira groups, or users the scheme should be applied to.
-
Enter the name of the Holiday Scheme.
-
Click the required dates in the calendar to mark them as holidays.
-
The selected dates will appear in the Holidays list.
-
Add a holiday name, if needed.
-
Click Create to save the scheme.
If no holiday name is added, only the holiday date will be saved.
If your company has employees in different countries or regions, we recommend creating separate Jira groups or ActivityTimeline teams for each location and applying the relevant Holiday Scheme to them.
For example, you can create a Jira group or team named USA Office that includes employees based in the United States. Then, create a Holiday Scheme for US public holidays and apply it to this group or team.
Adding Holidays for Multiple Years
A single Holiday Scheme can include holidays for multiple years.
For example, you can create one scheme that includes holidays for 2026, 2027, and 2028.
To add holidays for different years, use the Previous and Next buttons in the calendar and select the required dates for each year.
Importing Public Holidays by Country
Instead of adding holidays manually, you can select a country, and ActivityTimeline will automatically populate the list with official public holidays for that country.
After the holidays are added, you can modify the list according to your company-approved holiday calendar.
Starting from v11.2.0 we introduced user-level Holiday Scheme assignments. You can now assign Holiday Schemes directly to individual users without the need to associate them with a team or group.
Viewing Holiday Scheme Details
To view the details of a Holiday Scheme, click Show next to the required scheme.
This opens the scheme details page, where you can review the assigned teams, groups, users, and the list of holidays included in the scheme.
Editing or Deleting a Holiday Scheme
To edit a scheme:
-
Click Edit next to the required scheme.
To delete a scheme:
-
Click Delete next to the required scheme.
When a Holiday Scheme is deleted, the holidays from this scheme will also be removed from the schedules of all users it was applied to.
Import Holidays Schemes
ActivityTimeline also allows you to import Holiday Schemes from the Tempo Timesheets app if Tempo is installed on your Jira instance. Learn more Integration with Tempo Timesheets (Cloud)
To import the scheme after the integration with Tempo is set go to Configuration -> Teams -> Holidays Schemes -> Click on the Import Holiday Schemes button.
After clicking on Import Tempo Schemes the holiday schemes will appear immediately on the Holiday Schemes page. The scheme imported from the Tempo Timesheets plug-in is marked as [TEMPO].
Please note that you need both Jira administrator permissions and Tempo administrator permissions to import Holiday Schemes from Tempo.
